Joseph Valiante

April 19, 1937 ~ August 8, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old


Joseph Valiante, 80, of Norwalk, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Born in Norwalk, the son of the late Gennaro and Mary (Mastrolillo) Valiante, he was the beloved husband of Sally (D’Louhy) Valiante for 59 years. He graduated Norwalk High School, class of 1955.  He was a skilled carpenter and a  member of the Carpenters Union-Local #210. As the owner of Joe Valiante Construction, he built and remodeled many homes in Norwalk and throughout Fairfield County.  Joe was a lifetime member of the St. Ann Club, where he held many office positions and cooked countless dinners.  As an active member, Joe was instrumental in planning major fundraising events for local charities and for Jelsi, Italy.  He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 46 and was a Big Brother for the Special Olympics.  Joe was an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter, forager of mushrooms, and had a passion for cooking.
In addition to his loving wife Sally, he is survived by their 3 children; Theresa Figueiras, her husband Bernard and their children, Alex, Noelle and Emily; Lisa Habasinski, her children, Kim, Christian and Steph and their father Chris; and Joseph Valiante, his wife Jennifer and their children, Sophia, Ella and Matteo. Joe is also survived by his sister, Patronella Blake and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 
Joe’s family wishes to express their appreciation to Sr. Lucie, Sr. Francis and the staff at Notre Dame Health and Rehab, and to the Norwalk Hospital nursing staff from 8 East, ICU, 6 East for their compassionate care.  Heartfelt thanks to Marie Edward and her angels for their tireless care and support, and especially to close family friend, Jose Perez, whose loving care and presence during these last weeks will never be forgotten.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, August 13 from 4-8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. Members of St. Ann will meet at Magner Funeral Home at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 14 at 10 AM at St. Matthew Church, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: “S.S.T.V.- Capital Improvements” c/o Notre Dame Health and Rehab, 76 West Rocks Rd, Norwalk, CT 06851 or the Special Olympics (www.soct.org)
