Edward J. Flynn, M.D. (97) passed away peacefully on September 10th 2016, at his home in Stamford, CT. Formerly of Norwalk and Fairfield, Ed was born in Yonkers, NY. August 17th 1919, to the late Dr. John J. and Mary E. Flynn.  

Dr. Flynn was a graduate of Saint John’s University and Long Island College of Medicine and performed his internship and residency specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. After graduation, Ed served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Corps in WWII where he was stationed in the Pacific. Upon his return home he married his beloved wife Frances Flynn, whom he met in high school and was happily married to for 66 years. He settled his family in Norwalk, CT where he practiced medicine for over 35 years which included serving as Chief of Staff at Norwalk Hospital.

He was a founding trustee of St. Jerome Parish in Norwalk and was honored by the church as a Knight of Saint Gregory the Great, and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Club of Norwalk and volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by children John F. Flynn of Norwalk, Ct., Ellen F.  Laffey (William) of New Berlin WI., Edward J. Flynn Jr. (Carol) of Montrose NY., Frank B. Flynn (Marian) of Monroe, Ct., Robert F. Flynn (Jayne) of Sherman Ct., James J. Flynn (Cindy) of Norwalk Ct., Bernadette A. Christian of Randolph, MA., Joseph P. Flynn (Chrisanne) of Huntersville, NC., Nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren his sister in-law Elbee Farricker and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Flynn is predeceased by his loving wife Frances Flynn and by daughter in-law Christine P. Flynn and his sister Marie F. Starr.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 16th, 10:00am at St Jerome church 23 Half Mile Rd. Norwalk with burial to follow at St. Johns Cemetery on Richards Ave. in Norwalk. The family will receive friends on Thursday September 15th from 4-8pm at the Magner Funeral Home 12 Mott Ave. Norwalk. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Norwalk Hospital Foundation, 34 Maple St. Norwalk Ct. 06856, or St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd. Norwalk, Ct. 06851.
