Elizabeth Betty (Fisk) Booth

Elizabeth Fisk Booth, a Norwalk resident and dedicated community volunteer, died on August 20th at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard A. Booth. Mrs. Booth is also survived by her three children and their spouses Richard A. Booth, Jr. and his wife Deborah Fagan of Shorewood, WI, Lorene E. Bora and her husband Douglas Bora, Jr. of Darien, CT and David Fisk Booth and his wife Debra Booth of New Milford, CT; five grandchildren Abigail Booth Cassell and her husband James, Scott Bora, Nathaniel Booth, Elizabeth (“Libby”) Bora, and Juliann Booth as well as two great granddaughters Ellowyen Booth and Riley Bora.

Born Elizabeth Mary Fisk on July 9, 1923, she was the daughter of Everett L. Fisk and Lorene M. Fisk of Rochester, NY. She attended Hood College for one year, and then transferred to Alleghany College needing to be closer to home during World War II.  She graduated in 1945 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, she was employed by the Eastman Kodak Company in her home town of Rochester, NY.

In 1950 she was married to Richard, and they began their family in Rochester.  The Booths moved to Norwalk in 1957, briefly living in Shorefront Park and then moving to the home they have shared in West Norwalk for over 50 years.

While raising her family, Mrs. Booth, known to her friends as Betty, was an active community volunteer attaining many leadership positions in the organizations that she served. Mrs. Booth was a member of the Norwalk Women’s Club, serving as it President from 1983-1985. She was State Chairman of International Affairs for Connecticut General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was a member of the Norwalk- Village Green Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent from 1991-1994. She also served the DAR at the state level, as a State Councilor, State Nominating Chair and State Scholarship Chair. She served on the Norwalk Historical Commission and as Chair of the Norwalk Museum Gift Shop Committee, and was a director of the Norwalk Historical Society and Docent at the Mill Hill Complex. As a 50+ year member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church, Mrs. Booth served her congregation in a number of capacities, including the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Stewardship Commission, Delegate to the Annual Conference and as a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Booth also volunteered for a number of years at the Good Shepherd House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen and was a Cub Scout den mother.

The Booths were avid travelers. Purchasing a Cox Camper in 1965, the family embarked on the first of three ten week coast to coast camping trips. Over many summers, Betty, Dick and the children travelled the United States and Canada with the camper in tow, seeing new sights and visiting family and friends along the way. In their retirement years, Betty and Dick set off to see the world, travelling extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East, as well as the U.S.S.R., China and India. Remarkably, the Booths’ travels took them to nearly all of the 50 states and 39 countries/regions.

Mrs. Booth will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook who valued the importance of sharing a good family meal. She treasured the many Christmas celebrations surrounded by all of her grandchildren, and up until in her last year prepared her signature cranberry sauce.

Calling hours will be held at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk, CT on Friday, August 28 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the Magner Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a burial service at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk. The family will gather at the home of Mrs. Booth’s daughter and son-in-law, 38 Nearwater Lane, Darien, CT following internment and all are welcome for lunch and refreshments.
