Michael Salvatore Sarno

     Michael Salvatore Sarno, loving husband of Margaret, passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2015. He was born to the late Consiglia Venezia and Salvatore Sarno on January 10, 1922 in Westport, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his brother John and sisters Elsie Gradia, Olympia Gilbertie, Viola Montanaro. Michael served in WWII in the United States Navy as a Machinist and Fireman First Class at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard at the island of O’ahu, Hawaii. He was awarded a Victory Medal and after the war continued his service in the Navy making a goodwill tour on the Columbus around the world.

     He graduated from Norwalk High School, attended Wright Technical School in Stamford before the war. After the war he returned home to Norwalk and worked with his brother John running a service station on Westport Avenue. Later he went to manage commercial property. Michael enjoyed traveling and being physically active, he enjoyed biking, hiking and swimming especially with his grandchildren.

     He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, six children, Elizabeth Sarno, Diane Sarno, Linda Mourges, Steven Sarno, Cheryl Sarno and Gregory Sarno, eight grandchildren, Natassia Boening, Matt Mourges, Keturah Sarno, Paul Mourges, Salvatore Yazzie, Cory Mourges, Kayla Sarno and Tiha Tazzie,  his brother William Sarno and many nieces and nephews

     Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday December 3, 2015 at The Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday December 4, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 35 Norfield Road, Weston, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
