William E. Alvarez, Sr.

William E. “Bill” Alvarez, Sr., age 88, of Norwalk, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Thursday, January 29, 2015. He was the loving husband for over 62 years of Ann Diminski Alvarez. Bill was born in Westport on April 9, 1926, the son of the late Victor and Lillian Judd Alvarez. He attended Westport schools and served his country during WWII as a member of the Seabees in the U.S. Navy. He worked for most of his life as a body and fender technician for Westfair Ford and Leo’s Body Shop, and for the past 16 years he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Bill enjoyed playing cards, fishing and boating at Candlewood Lake, and loved spending his time with his grandchildren. He was the consummate gentleman and always Ann’s knight in shining armor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Ann, Bill is survived by his children and their spouses, William E. and Elaine Alvarez, Jr. of Redding, Drs. Marcia and David Ulmer of Norwalk, grandchildren Christine Watson and husband Douglas, William E. Alvarez III, Marisa Cummings and husband Thomas, Jaclyn Smith and husband Jonathan, Lora Ulmer, and a sister Martha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 3, 10 AM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery with military honors. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donation in Bill’s name may be made to St. Jerome Church.
