Robert Avery, Sr. Obituary

Robert Francis Avery, Sr. died peacefully on April 13, 2024 at Griffin Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob was born on January 10, 1940 at Norwalk Hospital, was raised by Homer and Almina Avery, and grew up with his many siblings on Harriet Street in Norwalk.

Bob and his wife, Angela, raised their children and lived in Norwalk together for more than fifty years. He worked at Edwards Inc., and Fire Systems in Hawthorne, NY before moving to Berlin, CT where he and Angela lived during retirement.

Growing up in Norwalk, Bob and his identical twin brother John, loved sports, especially baseball. They helped Norwalk bring home the 1952 Norwalk Little League World Series championship. It was one of the highlights of their lives. While living in Norwalk, Bob coached Little League Baseball and was a member of the Laurel Athletic Club.

Bob never stopped loving sports and in particular was a passionate fan of Penn State Football. For years Bob, his wife Angela, and their son Bobby would travel to Penn State for football weekends. That tradition continued when Catherine, Bob's daughter-in-law, and Caroline Joan, his granddaughter joined them. Needless to say, he was thrilled and so proud when Caroline was accepted to Penn State and often encouraged her to never give up and "keep her foot on the pedal" to achieve her dreams.

Bob and his daughter, Carol Ann, would often sit together and watch Indiana University basketball games on tv and every year they ventured into New York on Labor Day Weekend to watch the US Open. It was a tradition they looked forward to every year.

More than sports, Bob loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed all of the simple moments and little things in life and time spent with loved ones was when he was the most happy.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Angela; his two children, Robert F. Avery, Jr. (Catherine) of Fairfield, Carol Ann Kaye (Daniel and daughter) of Monroe; his beloved and cherished granddaughter, Caroline Joan Avery; and three sisters, Cora, Ella and Lynn.

He was predeceased by his twin brother John, his brothers Paul and Jimmy, and his sister, Doris.

There will be no calling hours.
