Dominic R. Lipira, 94, of Westport,  died on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital. Born in Norwalk on August 24, 1923, the son of the late Girolamo and Biaggia (Restivo) Lipira, he married the late Lena Verna Lipira on April 7, 1945 and they spent over 70 loving years together. A World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1942-1945, he then worked at Southern New England Telephone for over 42 years, where he rose from a cable splicer to a sales manager. Dominic also served as Norwalk Police Commissioner from 1965-1975 and was a member of the South Norwalk Boat Club for more than 50 years. After his retirement, he found much enjoyment in all aspects of real estate, and could be found planning his next strategic move.  In his youth, he enjoyed hockey and baseball. Later years found him boating, fishing, swimming and clamming, as well as playing golf, bridge, or watching football with Brian. He also enjoyed gardening, and cooking with the fresh vegetables he raised, especially for Sunday dinners with Brian and Danielle. Dominic also travelled with his wife, Lena; twice to Italy, as well as for reunions for the USS Philadelphia and summer boat trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island.

He is survived by his son Robert and his wife Mary Anne Lipira of South Windsor, 3 grandchildren; Brian, Danielle and Cecilia and great-grandson Leo Ghirlanda and many loving nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son,  Dr. Eugene Lipira, brother Jimmy and 2 sisters, Sara Bredice and Katie Brown.
