Edwin "Ed" Downing

   Edwin H. “Ed” Downing, age 75 of Norwalk, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Monday, March 27.  Ed was born in Norwalk on June 1, 1941, the son of the late Edwin S. and Elizabeth Rennie Downing.  He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and Norwalk Community College.  Ed was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served during the Vietnam War and was a former Judge Advocate and Commandant for the Marine Corp League, Mahackemo Detachment.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 12 and on the Norwalk Memorial Day Planning Committee.

   Ed is survived by Betty Szabo Downing of Norwalk, his daughter Mariane E. Ceballo of Danbury, his son Edwin S. Downing and wife Holly of Washington, DC, his brother John Downing of TN, and his sister Janet Healy of NC.  Also surviving are his loving grandchildren Tyler and Ryan Ceballo, and Catherine Downing, and several nieces and nephews.

  Ed’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Thursday, March 30, from 5-7 PM, with a funeral service to begin at 7.  Military graveside services will be held on Friday, 11 AM at Riverside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers and to support those Ed left behind, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/in-memory-of-ed-downing
