Frederick Damato Jr., 55, of Norwalk, died on Tuesday, Mar. 20 at Yale-New Haven, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Norwalk, the only son of Katherine (Missbrenner) and the late Frederick Damato Sr., he was a sheet metal worker. He is survived by his daughter Jazmine, mother Katherine, and loving soul-mate Suzanne Harrick.
Fred enjoyed life with a big heart and a loving spirit. He was an enthusiastic golfer, boater and fisherman, and he loved his Miami Dolphins. He was creative and would immerse himself in various woodworking projects. His compassion extended to the animals he’d make time to visit. He was especially fond of their cat, Norman Rockwell Damato. Fred and Suzanne were childhood friends, and were re-united at just the right moment, as if by divine intervention. He was a strong-willed man, who fought hard to be here for those he loved and who loved him.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, Mar. 25, from 2-5 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk, and his Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, 11 AM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd, Norwalk.
His friends will be setting up a GoFundMe page.
