Gilbert "Skip" Vincent

April 23, 1929 ~ January 18, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Gilbert G. "Skip" Vincent, age 88 of Norwalk, died on Thursday, January 18, 2018.  Born in New Haven, the son of Sylvan G. and Helen M. (Petrillo) Vincent, he was the beloved husband of Betty A. (Niles) Vincent for 63 years.  Skip attended St. Mary’s School in Norwalk and Fairfield Prep.  After Prep, Skip served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and completed his Master's degree and post-graduate studies at Fairfield University.  

 Skip was a lifelong resident of Norwalk and a teacher in the Stamford School System for 33 years.  He loved teaching and many of his students still remember him fondly.  Skip was one of the original founders of the Senior Babe Ruth League in Norwalk and was an outstanding pitcher and the only freshmen on the Fairfield U. Varsity baseball team.  He was an outstanding tennis player with the U.S. Tennis Association and member of the Oak Hills Men’s Tennis Team.  Skip also served on the finance committee at St. Jerome’s Parish and was a member of the Norwalk Club that met at the Pastime Club weekly.  He also belonged to a men’s duplicate bridge game for many years and loved playing bridge whenever he could.  He was also an avid Yankee, Giant and Knick Fan.

 In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by their children; Denise Holloway and her husband Jay of Cumming, GA, Mark Vincent and his wife Diane of Norwalk, and Marcy Vincent Demby of Norwalk, 7 cherished grandchildren: Jason, William, Daniel, Mark, Matthew, Brian and Andrew, and great-granddaughter, Cadence Holloway as well as a brother, Sylvan Jr. of Bradenton, FL, and a sister Dianne Vincent of Hamden.  He was predeceased by his brother Captain Gerald Vincent and his sister Donna Vincent.

 His family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20th from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at St. Jerome’s Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT.  Followed by the Funeral at 2:00 pm also at St. Jerome’s Church.
