Jane (Tavella) Gilchrist

Jane Tavella Gilchrist, age 89 and lifetime resident Norwalk, passed away on October 26, 2018 after a long illness at The Maplewood where she made her second home.  Born in Norwalk on November 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Lena Masi Tavella.

Jane was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Peter Francis Gilchrist and her siblings Flora, Frank, James, Dominick (Muzzy) and Rocco (Junior) Tavella. 

Jane was born in Norwalk and was a graduate of Norwalk High School. She was employed by O’Brien Press, C.R. Gibson and Perkin Elmer. Jane was a member of the Golden Age Club, Catholic Daughters, and Columbiette’s Counsels 46 & 1253.  Jane loved spending time with her family.  She was known for her sense of humor and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her brother Joseph, nieces and nephews, Betty Brink, Judy Mocciola, Terry Quell, Joe Tavella Jr., Jim Tavella, Jane Lehn, Patty Perschino, Tom Tavella, cousins and many dear friends. She also leaves the wonderful staff of Maplewood at Strawberry Hill who became a second family to her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am at St. Philip Church 1 Father Conlon Place Norwalk on Tuesday, October 30, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.  Jane’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County, PO Box 489, Wilton, CT 06897 or Quality Care Services, Westport Place, 1698 Post Rd East, Westport, CT 06880.
