Janet R. McNeil

Janet R. Mc Neil, 96 formerly of Norwalk, died peacefully at her home in Stratford on November 16, 2018 following a brief illness.  Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Harold D. and Bernice (Black) Rose. She was predeceased by her first husband Lt. Jacob M. Reisert, USN, and second husband Thomas J. Mc Neil, USN, as well as her daughter, Anne M. McLaughlin. A graduate of Columbia University - School of Nursing, class of 1944, she touched thousands of lives during her 50+ year career in nursing, at Norwalk Hospital, the Notre Dame Convalescent Home where she served as its Director of Nursing, as a school nurse in the Norwalk and Stratford school systems and concluded her career as a nurse instructor for the State of CT, Dept of Developmental  Services in Bridgeport, CT. Prior to her nursing career in the US, she and her husband Tom McNeil lived in the Philippines and Germany where he worked for the US Information Service and four of her eight children were born. She was loved and will be sadly missed by many.

Janet is survived by her children Thomas H., of South Hero, VT,  Michael J. and his wife Jill of Easton, Brian P. and his wife Judy of Wellington, FL, Christopher B. and his wife Camille of Worthington, OH,  Mary D. Backer of West Haven, Erin E. Herring and her husband George of Norwalk, Laurie L. Citera and her husband Jac of Greenport, NY; 12 loving grandchildren; Mark, Jennifer, Zachary, Hailey, Amanda, Caitlin, Ian, Jacob, Luke, Hannah, Brennah and Gavin, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Sat., Dec. 1 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk.  Burial will take place privately in Ohio at a later date.
