June Talarico Obituary

June Talarico of Norwalk passed away peacefully at the CT Hospice in Branford, on February 9, 2018 after a short illness. She was 84 years old.  June was born on February 24, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, to Joseph and Iola Rabbitt. She was one of six girls The family came to Norwalk during the depression and from the young age of 15, she began a lifetime career of being a salesgirl. She loved it!

June worked in the old Federal Bake Shop on Wall Street at age 15. She became a sales girl at Genungs Department Store, later to be Steinbeck’s and then Howlands. She then went to Lohmans Department Store and she ended her career at age 80 at Staples in Norwalk. Through the years she won many sales awards…she would just start talking and smiling and before you knew it, you bought it!

She loved NORWALK. She loved to go to the New York Bakery on Main Street and visit the morning “coffee gang” there. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and she always dressed up in a costume and went out. She only stopped doing this a few years ago.  During her time at Genungs, she met her husband to be. Tom Talarico, who worked for Sears Roebuck which was next door on Wall Street. They married in 1957. Tom passed away in 1979.

She will be greatly missed by her many friends and her family. A special thank you to staff of the CT Hospice. They took such good care of her in her last days. June is survived by her sisters, Eleanore Dilello (Joseph), Patricia Perrouna, Barbara Jacobson (Jake), Karen Gaspar and several nieces and nephews. Interment will be private, at the discretion of her family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to: the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405.
