Lucy M. Somma, age 92 of Norwalk, died peacefully at Notre Dame Convalescent Home on Tuesday, January 1. She was the wife of the late Dante S. Somma. Born in Norwalk on April 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Rose (Barella) DeSantis and has lived locally all of her life. She worked for many years in retail clothing and had a large following as a seamstress and tailor. Lucy was a member of the Columbiettes, a founding member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and New Horizons at St. Matthew Church. Her greatest joy in her later years were spending time with her grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by her daughters Maria Somma of New York City and Patricia Somma DiBartolomeo (Joseph), her sister Antoinette DeSantis and grandchildren Thomas and Lauren DiBartolomeo, and Lauren’s fiancé Josh Bleggi, as well as Markise Calixte, her long-time aide, all of Norwalk. She was also predeceased by her sister Anna M. DeSantis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5, 10 AM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Lucy’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Friday from 5-8 PM.
