Marie Labacile Ambroise, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital with her dutiful son, Joseph, by her side. She had reached the gracious age of 98 years old. She was born in Mirebalais, Haiti on March 18, 1919. Sadly she was orphaned at a very young age with her brothers, Bauvais, Rosalva and Gautier Saint-Jean. Yet, they were fortunate to be raised by their beloved aunt Mrs. Edgar-Nelson. While in Haiti, she married Louis Ambroise and started a family. She was a resourceful and hardworking woman who was also a devoted mother and wife. She made a comfortable and happy life for her children and husband.
She immigrated to the United States in 1975. Ultimately, she became a longtime resident of Norwalk. She doted on her many grandchildren and settled into her role as family matriarch. She had a quick wit and exuberant laugh. She enjoyed jaunts around her neighborhood running errands and keeping healthy. She also enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the culinary arts with any eager young student.
She is survived by her six children, Emmanuel, Marie Claude, Joseph, Marie Madonne, Marie Carmel, and Marie Guirlaine. Her fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk on Friday February 9, 2018. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Norwalk on Saturday February 10, 2018.
