Mary F. Hughes

Mary Hughes 90 of Norwalk passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday May 2nd after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Hughes Sr., with whom she shared 59 happy years together until his passing in 2004.

Mary’s early life was one of a loving Mother raising her 4 children all through their years in school. Later she was employed at Bigelow Tea until her retirement. She enjoyed many longtime friends both at and outside of work and will be missed by all who knew her. Her biggest joy in life was her family, preferring to spend as much time as possible with them through her entire life.

Mary is survived by her sons Bill Hughes and wife Marge, Michael Hughes and wife Maria and a daughter Sherrie Roman and husband Tony, all of Norwalk. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a sister Julia O’Hara of Norwalk along with several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Bill Sr., she was predeceased by a son Clifford Hughes and a grandson Kristofer Arnold both of Norwalk and a brother Benjamin Schumacher and sister Carmelita Mitchell of Maryland. We would like to thank our friend Maggie who was always there to help with Mom when needed. Also, the family would also like to acknowledge the loving and compassionate care provided by her primary care giver Robin during her illness.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Wed. May 10th at 10 am in St. Matthew Church in Norwalk followed by internment at St. John’s cemetery immediately following the service. There will be no calling hours. The family request any donations be made in Mary’s honor and in the memory of Kristofer Arnold to the National MPS Society, 4220 Apex Hwy # 140, Durham, NC 27713.
