Walter J. Arndt, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Nov. 8. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife, Francine E. Melanson Arndt and his son Paul Arndt.
He served in the US Navy from 1952-1957. He joined the Norwalk Police Dept. in March of 1957 and was promoted to Sergeant. He attained the rank of Lieutenant and was 2nd in command of the detective bureau, promoted to Captain and then retired as Inspector. Arndt was also responsible for implementing the department's computer system, which greatly improved the department's management reports. He was also a co-founder of the Police Assoc. of CT. Arndt earned his Masters in Criminal Justice from the Univ. of New Haven and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's in B.A. During this time, he also served as professor and coordinator of the Criminal Justice Program at NCC. Walter is survived by son, Alan Arndt (Janice), daughter, Andrea Fedor (Allen), grandchildren, Kelsie, Christopher, Andrew, Sarah, Brenna, A.J., Margaret and Katherine, great granddaughter Olivia, a sister, Lori Taylor (Tony), daughter-in-law Sharon Esposito,
and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by several sisters and a brother.
His family will receive friends on Wed, Nov. 14 from 5-7 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov 15, 11AM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd, Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
