William Delancy Eckert, Sr.

August 13, 1926 ~ November 1, 2018 (age 92) 92 Years Old

William Eckert, Sr. Obituary

     William Delancy “Bill” Eckert, Sr., age 92 of Norwalk, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Thursday, November 1.  He was the loving husband for 70 years of Marjorie Jones Eckert.  Bill was born on August 13, 1926 in Port Chester, NY, the son of the late Elroy M. and Annette Duell Eckert and has lived locally for most of his life.  He served in the National Guard and U.S. Army during the Korean War and was retired from MBI.  In the 40’s and 50’s Bill took great pride in being a tree man and also worked for AMF for many years.  He also enjoyed being a crossing guard at Kendall School after he retired.  Bill was a 68 year member of the Community Baptist Church and also served as one of their deacons.  He was also an avid chess player and a devoted, loving family man.

     In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his 5 sons and their wives: William D. Jr. and Holly Eckert of NH, Edward S. and Madeleine Eckert of Norwalk, Richard A. Eckert and his fiancé Christina Bennett of Norwalk, David M. and Nancy Eckert of CO, James Q. and Melinda Eckert of Norwalk, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was also predeceased by his brother Roy.

     Bill’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Monday, Nov. 5, from 4-7 PM.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Nov., 6, 11 AM at the Community Baptist Church, 105 East Ave., Norwalk.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN, 38105 (www.stjude.org) or the USO, PO Box 96860 Washington, DC 29977-7677 (www.uso.org).
