Elizabeth "Betsy" (Stevenson) English

Elizabeth "Betsy" Stevenson English, 81 of Norwalk, died on December 29, 2022 at Norwalk Hospital.

Betsy was unforgettable and full of joie de vivre. She was curious and thoughtful and anyone who ever met her knew of her kindness, caring and unrelenting compassion.  She had a delightful sense of humor which she liberally applied to everything and everyone including herself. 

While Betsy enjoyed reading the New York Times daily and was an avid follower of local, state and national politics, the thing that brought her the most joy was spending time with, and traveling with, her family.  She planned and led our family on trips all over the U.S. – her favorites were our national parks vacations - and the world.  She was especially fond of going to France where she spent time as a young woman and celebrated her 70th birthday.          

Betsy was an active member of several community organizations including the First Congregational Church of Darien, the League of Women Voters and Alcoholics Anonymous where she achieved 47 years of sobriety. 

Betsy is survived by her brother, John Stevenson (Bedford, NY), her daughter, Cass English (Mechanicsville, VA) and her son, Michael English (Hoboken, NJ) as well as her beloved grandchildren, Michael, Grace, and Alexander (Alex) English. 

Born in New Rochelle, New York, Betsy was the daughter of the late Holland and Katherine Brady Stevenson, she was predeceased by her brothers, Holland and Gil Stevenson.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8 from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk CT 06850.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Darien, 14 Brookside Rd., Darien. 

While Betsy loved flowers, memorial donations in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association (www.Alz.org) would also be welcome.
