Ellen H. (Healy) Lucas

Ellen H. Lucas, 89, died on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022 at her home in Norwalk. She was born in Middletown on April 24, 1933 to Raymond and Anne (Merritt) Healy. After graduating from Portland High School in CT she went on to study education at Middlebury College where she met her husband, Van Court Lucas. They moved to Norwalk where she began her career as a teacher at Brien McMahon High School where she taught French and Spanish. She retired after teaching for more than 30 years in the Norwalk Public Schools.

In her retirement years, she enjoyed golf, tennis, travelling, playing Bridge, and most recently took up playing Mahjong. She was an avid fan of the UCONN women’s basketball team. She was a member of the Oak Hills Golf Course and the New Horizons group at St. Matthew Church. She was also actively involved in F.I.S.H. which provided rides for seniors and disabled residents throughout Norwalk. Ellen could often be found looking for a good book or at movie night at the Darien Library or at Duchess Restaurant with her friends.

Ellen loved her family dearly. Her children and her grandchildren were the light of her life and she was their biggest cheerleader. She was an amazing mother, nana, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague and friend. She touched the lives of so many people and she will be truly missed.

Ellen is survived by her two sons, David H. Lucas and his wife, Cindy of Trumbull, Thomas V. Lucas and his wife, Julie and her three grandchildren, Emma, Court and Natalie of Madison, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Van Court Lucas and her sister Mary Freed.

Her family will receive friends on Monday Dec. 5 from 5 – 8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, Dec 6, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
