Ernest Belcher Obituary

Ernest A. Belcher (Al) passed away peacefully in Norwalk Hospital on April 2, 2021  after a gallant and courageous battle  with Parkinson’s Disease.

   He is survived by his wife Betty, three daughters, Dana Belcher, Robyn Belcher, Lindsay Murawski (Ryan Murawski) and one son Jeffrey (Lora).  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ella and Aubrey Murawski and Kendall and Jack Belcher. He thoroughly enjoyed every minute of watching them play soccer, swim, tennis and any other sporting activity.

Al was born on May 7th, 1938, to Harry and Mabel Belcher of New Canaan, CT. where he grew up and went to school. He graduated from New Canaan High School in 1956 and In 1960 he graduated from Florida Southern University with a degree in Business Administration.  Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army as a Lieutenant in the Signal Corps and went on to serve in France and Germany. He later received the rank of Captain while serving in the Army Reserve Corps.   In recent years he was an active member of the Military Officers of America organization, and the American Legion. He loved his country and always was proud to be a veteran.

In 1964, he married Betty Jane Price, of Norwalk, CT where they raised their children and lived together for 57 years. He joined the family business in New Canaan, Belcher’s Inc, and later in life worked at Outdoor Sports in Wilton.

He was an avid tennis player and a member of Shore and Country Club for 41 years. During those years he played on every Mens’  Team that he could and he also served on the   Board of Directors as Tennis Chairman for six years. He and Betty made wonderful, long lasting friends there and cherish all the great memories.  

Al was a Mason and a member of Harmony Lodge #67 in New Canaan for 60 years. He served Harmony Lodge as the Master twice and then as Secretary for 12 years. He was a member of Christ Church in East Norwalk ad served faithfully on the Ushers Group. He was also a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

Al loved his tennis, being with all his good friends, and of course his home and his beloved family. There are no calling hours. A Celebration of Life Service will be held later in the Spring.
