Evelyn Murphy Obituary

Evelyn Murphy was born to William and Gertrude Baker in Ottawa, Ontario on September 18, 1926.  Her family moved to Buffalo, NY in 1927 and later to Watertown, NY.  She married Paul Murphy in 1947 and had five children - Mary Sullivan, Janet Foltz, John Patrick Murphy, Gregory Murphy and Timothy Murphy.  She had ten grandchildren - Andrew Sullivan, Rachel Menti, Jude Pascarelli, Patrick Murphy, Paul Murphy, Andrew Murphy, Jessica Foltz, Amanda Murphy, Kelly Murphy and Matthew Murphy and six great grandchildren.  Rowayton, CT has been her home since 1982.

Evelyn loved Rowayton and the people who lived there.  She was rarely able to leave the house but felt connected through the local news and neighborhood sites.  When moving from Massachusetts in 1982, she and her husband Paul looked for houses all over Fairfield County and when they found Rowayton, they knew it was a place they would both love.  She was born in Ottawa, Canada of humble beginnings.  After moving to the US, growing up in New York State and marrying, she lived on campus at St. Lawrence University until Paul received his Masters degree. Following that, they lived in Buffalo, New York and Norfolk, Massachusetts.  In that time, she had five children, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She had a great love for the beautiful sunrises that could be seen from her house.  All animals - deer, turkey, squirrels, chipmunks and birds were welcome in her backyard.  Even at 92, she was acutely aware of what was going on in the world, what the stock market was doing and the politics of the day.  She was strong in her opinions and was an animal rights champion.  She believed in God and was comforted by religious principles.  Only for a few short days did she slip away from life.  She was at home and surrounded by her family.

People liked her instantly and most people who knew her will never forget her.  Despite the many hardships and challenges she faced, she was the cornerstone of her family for many years.  We will all miss her but we are at peace because she is reunited with her husband and son.  We love you Mom.  Rest easy now.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
