Florence R. Romano, 93, of Norwalk, died peacefully on June 9, 2021 at Norwalk Hospital.
She was the loving wife for 69 years to the late Joseph C. Romano. They were married on December 16, 1950. Florence is now happily reunited with Joe, the love of her life. She was born and raised on a farm in Travis, Staten Island, NY, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Roncskevitz) O’Brien. She had retired from ZOTOS International as executive secretary to the president. An active member of St. Matthew Parish, she served as Eucharistic minister, was a member of the Marion Guild and New Horizons, and was past president of the Columbiettes Council# 46. Florence and Joe moved to Connecticut in the 1970s where they made lasting friendships with neighbors and fellow parishioners at St. Matthew. She is survived by her brother, George O’Brien of Wisconsin and her sister-in-law, Catherine Romano and several nieces and nephews including Ron Romano, John Romano,
Janet Smith (goddaughter), and also Lynn (goddaughter) and husband Michael Mattison. Her great-nieces and nephews, Dominick Greco, Matthew Smith, Ryan, Kevin, Katie (Mitchell) and Tyler Mattison. She is also survived by cousins Frank (Pat) Roncskevitz, Ken (Arlene) Roncskevitz who also called the town of Travis home and Corinne Kolenbrander of Michigan. Predeceased by her niece, Annette Greco and her sister-in-law Sally O’Brien.
Her family will receive friends on June 16 Wednesday from 3PM - 7PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Thursday at St. Matthew Church, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
