Frederik Banda, of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Tirana, Albania, he was the son of the late Jak and Agetina Banda.
Frederik was recognized for his artistry of playing the violin and was known in classical music circles as the “Albanian Paganini”. He won several prizes and his performances, filled with exceptional talent and technical rigor, fascinated audiences globally for numerous decades. In 2012, the President of Albania awarded Frederik with the Order of “Grand Master” in recognition of his accomplished career and for taking Albanian arts to new heights globally.
Frederik is survived by his wife, Diana Banda; his daughter, Jorida Banda and her husband Altin Tirana and his grandsons, Jake Arber Tirana and Alec Jon Tirana of New Canaan, CT; his sisters, Terezina Joco and her husband Stiljan of Worcester, MA and Andoneta Lika and her husband Gezim of Tirana, Albania; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Frederik was predeceased by his brother Nikolin Banda.
To keep family and friends safe, private funeral services will be held at the Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk, CT.
