Helen Parkin Obituary

Helen Agnes Parkin passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 in Westport after a brief illness. Helen was a resident of Norwalk for the past 50 years and a parishioner of Saint Matthew’s Church. 

Helen was born May 27, 1931 to the late Thomas and Annie (Brady) Fitzsimons in Cullow, Crosserlough, County Cavan, Ireland. At the young age of 17, Helen and her sister Mary left Ireland in 1948 to start a new life in America. After graduating from Mother of God Academy in Stamford, Helen went to work for Pitney Bowes, initially starting in the secretarial pool, and advanced to the Accounting department, retiring after 38 years of service. Helen married her late husband Arthur in 1956. Helen and her husband enjoyed vacationing and traveled all over the world.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her brothers: Patrick, Michael, Andrew, Thomas, James and Eammon, also sisters Mary Laskowski and Annie Humphrey. She is survived by her sister, Bridget Coleman of Duleek, Ireland, nephew Joseph Laskowski of Derby, nieces: Helen Rocco of Stamford, Mary Romanillo and Patricia Laskowski of Norwalk and Carol Laskowski of Fairfield and a host of other nieces and nephews in Ireland and the UK. She was affectionately known to her nephews and nieces as “Goggy”. She also leaves behind her little companion, Mitzi.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saints Matthew’s Church, Scribner Ave. Norwalk on Wednesday, November 14 at 10:30 AM.   Interment to follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Matthew’s Church.
