Jeffrey R. Olmstead, born August 21, 1948, died peacefully in his sleep on February 4, 2018 at Glen Hill Center, Danbury, CT at the age of 69. Son of the late Robert A. and Audrey J. (Curly) Olmstead, Jeff was born and raised in Norwalk, CT. Jeff graduated in 1966 from Norwalk High School and entered the United States Air Force after graduation. Jeff was stationed in Thailand while he served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1970. After his four year military service to his country, Jeff began his professional career with Deluxe Check Printers of Norwalk, CT, and most recently retired from Pitney Bowes in Danbury, CT.
Second only to his family, Jeff’s main love was for music. Playing the saxophone for multiple bands, Jeff spent several years performing at weddings, dinner dances, and outdoor concerts. He also had the amazing talent of picking up almost any instrument and teaching himself how to play it by ear. An avid fan of sports, Jeff never missed a wrestling match or football game of any of his three sons.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beverly Dohring Olmstead; his son Brian and his wife Dana, and their three children, Kyle, Brendan and Madison of Altus, OK; his son Scott and his wife Aurora and their children Kalea and Makana of Bethel, CT; his son Dennis and his wife Jessica of Clinton, CT. Jeff was predeceased by his grandson Gabriel Michael.
His family will receive friends on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday Feb, 10, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave, Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
