Joanne (DeSando) Girardo

     Joanne DeSando Girardo, age 87 of Niagara Falls, NY, died peacefully at her home on Monday, March 8.  She was the loving wife of the late Nicholas A. Girardo.  Joanne was born on July 5, 1933 in Nicastro, Italy, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Angela (Gallo) DeSando and was a longtime resident of Norwalk, CT.  She was a seamstress by trade. Joanne enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her family.

     Survivors include four loving children and spouses: Concetta M. Libertino (Joe) of Norwalk, CT, Angela E. Lopez (Juan) of Niagara Falls, NY, Anthony P. Girardo (Maureen)Minooka, IL, and Joseph S. Girardo (Elann) of Niagara Falls, Canada, six grandchildren, Gabrielle and Gianna Lopez, Rosa DeMatteo (Greg), Pasquale Libertino (Kim), Antonella Soumelidis (Nick) and Isabella Girardo, six great grandchildren, Annabella and Melania DeMatteo, Michael, Sofia, and Zoe Soumelidis, Olivia Libertino, Lily, Myles and Zoey Wolkowski, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip  Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Pl. Norwalk, CT on Monday, March 22, at 10 AM, with entombment to follow at St. John Cemetery.

(The parish is doing it to follow contact tracing protocols)  Joanne’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk from 3-5 PM on Sunday, March 21.  Face masks and social distancing will be required at all locations.

  In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Heart Assoc. (www.heart.org).
