John Gaita, Jr.

John Gaita Jr., 83, died on May 17, 2023 at his home in Norwalk. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, the son of the late John and Anna Maria (LaSelva) Gaita, he was also predeceased by his two brothers-in-law, Salvatore Taliercio and Joseph DeRosa.

Well known around town for his kind, compassionate nature, this special angel was a loving friend to all who knew him. As one of the original residents, he welcomed many dignitaries and celebrities to The Martin House, over the years. John was very fond of the 50 years he spent with the S.T.A.R. program. He enjoyed bingo and bowling and especially participating in the Special Olympics, and he was proud of his many awards and medals.

He is survived by his siblings; Ann Taliercio, Mary Ellen (Gus) Athanasiou, Vincent (Enza) Gaita, Joseph (Sally) Gaita, Vanessa DeRosa and Donald (Lori) Gaita, as well as 17 loving nieces and nephews, 33 great nieces and nephews and 17 great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

His family will receive friends on Monday, May 22, from 4-8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Funeral Services officiated by Rev. Artie Kassimis, will be held on Tuesday at 11AM at Word Alive Bible Church, 526 West Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
