Lester Bilyou, II Obituary

Lester William Bilyou, II, of Norwalk, peacefully entered eternal life on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Norwalk Hospital, after a brave journey through heart and kidney disease. His partner, Anna Marie D’Ambrosio, was by his side.  Born July 22, 1950 in Lock Haven, PA, Lester was the son of the late Lester W. and Arlene (Womelsdorf) Bilyou.  He was also predeceased by his sister Norma Schetrompf, nephew Edward Poorman,  Aunt Florence Bilyou and Uncle Raymond Bilyou, Sr.

As a mainly self-taught electrical engineer, Lester worked for Edwards Fire Alarm Systems, often being called upon to trouble shoot problems all over the country, before founding and serving as president of Spearhead Enterprises. To his proud credit, he also designed the fire alarm system for the Detroit Metro and was called upon to investigate a devastating hotel fire in Puerto Rico over 20 years ago.  During his semi-retirement, he enjoyed helping friends and clients with their computer problems and could just about fix anything!

Lester was an intelligent, devoted and gentle Christian man, and comfortable worshiping wherever Anna Marie’s singing took them. One of his greatest joys was recording her and the St. John’s Episcopal Church choir and making sure everyone sounded fabulous! Family and friends were blessed by his many talents, which included jewelry making, leather crafting and numerous other interests.  But to those who knew and loved him, it’s been said: ‘He was quietly hilarious and had a wonderfully quirky perspective on life.”

Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Norwalk Hospital who lovingly cared for Lester these past weeks and to Anna Marie’s nurse cousin, (in L.I.) who acted as on-call liaison between the hospital and Anna Marie. Thanks also go to DaVita Dialysis Center in Norwalk and his many friends and family for their loving support (and caring for Oreo, the cat – you know who you are!).

Lester is survived by his sisters, Norene Poorman and Michael (Brenda) Logan of Douglasville, GA; two nephews: Philip and Christine Schetrompf of Moneta, VA, Mark and  Catherine Schetrompf of Douglasville, GA; two nieces: Susan and David Myers; Lynda and Jeff Champion; and his partner, Anna Marie D’Ambrosio of Norwalk.  Lester also leaves behind his cousin, Roy Bilyou, (AZ), his many grand nephews and nieces and his beloved cat, Oreo.

A Memorial Service, celebrating Lester’s life, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the United Methodist Church of Darien, 345 Middlesex Road., Darien, CT.  Family and friends are invited to greet one another in Faith Hall, prior to the service, beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
