Margaret E (Park) Byrnes

Margaret Louise (Park) Byrnes, 91, of Norwalk, wife of the late John M. Byrnes, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

 Born on July 12, 1926; she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Nellie (Febbraio) Park.  A lifelong resident of Norwalk, she met her future husband, John, when he was 20 and she only 15.  The friend who introduced them told John that Margaret was 18.   It will come as no surprise to anyone who knew her that she carried it off and after a three year engagement, they were married in 1947.   Beginning in 1955, she ran the office of their business, Byrnes Moving Company until the business closed in 1998.

 Margaret was a parishioner of St Paul’s Church for more than 60 years.  During those years she volunteered for almost every job St Paul’s offered.  Margaret served as head usher, chaired Christmas Fairs, was a wedding coordinator, served as part of the Prayer Chain and organized lunches for seniors and home bound members.

 She was a member of the Women’s Board of Norwalk Hospital for 20 years and was a longtime volunteer at the Treasure House, Norwalk Hospital’s consignment shop that raises funds to benefit Norwalk Hospital and activities such as scholarships and equipment purchases.

 Margaret was heartbroken by the death of her only son, John Michael Byrnes in 2012.

 She is survived by an extended family and many friends and neighbors.  Margaret will be forever loved and missed by all those whose lives she touched.   The family would like to thank Sharon Mack and her team as well as the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County for their compassionate care during Margaret’s final days.

 A memorial service for Margaret will be held at St. Paul's Church on the Green on Monday May 21, 2018 at 10 AM.  Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to St. Paul's Church on the Green, 60 East Ave., Norwalk, CT, 06851.
