Obituary

Maureen Melissa Barry Thresher, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 19th. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Thomas Thresher, and her children.

Maureen was born October 9, 1956, the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Sayville, New York, which she loved to remind everyone is the “friendliest town in America.” After high school she attended Central Connecticut State University (that’s where she met Tom, while working as a ball girl for the soccer team). She graduated with a degree in education and went on to be a lifelong educator.

Maureen, or “Red,” or “Mo” as her various friends and family lovingly called her, was an avid gardener, volunteer, tennis and pickle ball player, and always the life of the party. She had the most incredible gift to make anyone who met her feel comfortable and at ease, as if they were her lifelong friend. She never met a dance floor she couldn’t conquer.

In addition to being the “best mom ever, no contest” as voted by her children every year from 1982 forward, she was also a proud and beaming grandmother. “My biggest blessings call me “Mimi and Sparkles”” she would say.

She is survived by her husband Thomas, as well as her children, their spouses, and grandchildren: Alli Thresher of Worcester, Massachusetts and their children Vincent and Theodorus, Elizabeth Thresher Hogan of Burlington, Connecticut and her husband Randon and their children Liam, Connor, and Killian, Thomas K. Thresher and his wife, Alisha Williams Thresher, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and their children Christian, Titan, and Lily-Mae, and William Thresher of Stratford, Connecticut and his partner Natalie Martino.

In addition, Maureen leaves behind six incredible siblings: Susie, Patsy, Beth, Anne, Johnny, and Billy, as well as their spouses, her beloved in-laws, plus a network of cherished nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4-8pm at Magner Funeral Home 12 Mott Ave. Norwalk.
