Michael Patrick Meaney, age 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Michael was born on January 5, 1948, the son of the late John and Lucille (Davis) Meaney and was also predeceased by his brother John and father-in-law Richard Sirois.
He spent his last day with his family, and is survived by his wife, Gail Meaney, daughter, Elizabeth Gonzalez, grandchildren, Danielle, Stephanie and Michael Gonzalez; brothers, George Faust, Thomas and Frank Meaney, a sister, Patricia Stefanko, mother-in-law Margaret Sirois, and brother-in-law Richard (Laurie) Sirois. Michael had many nieces and nephews who he loved as his own.
Michael took an active role in his community. He served as a corporal for the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1970. Michael worked for the City of Norwalk for 42 years, and served as the AFSCME Local Union #2405 as past president.
Michael was also active in Norwalk’s athletic community. He played recreational softball and was an avid bowler in the Rip Van Winkle and Nutmeg Bowling Leagues for many years. You could also find him in his Yankee hat at a local sports field, cheering on his grandchildren and relatives. With a positive attitude and a big heart, Michael will be missed by many. His family will receive friends on Friday, January 26 from 4-8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 203 East Ave, Norwalk, with military burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
