Richard Hodges has departed us to join the love of his life, Rita, in eternal peace. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters and grandchildren.
Richard was born on May 21, 1936, and lived all of his life in Norwalk, CT. His most precious memories were spent with his true love, Rita, and with his cherished family and close friends. For over 25 years, he was the proud owner of G&H Automotive, which was well known in Norwalk and surrounding areas.
Richard had a lifelong passion for hunting, gardening, and working outside in the yard, often for hours on end, to create a beautiful home for his wife. He also enjoyed playing cards on Saturday nights, was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, and was a proud member of the Gear Grinder Car Club. Richard was an avid reader as well and looked forward to reading the Norwalk Hour every morning from cover to cover, sometimes more than once.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Richard’s caregiver, Carrie, for the wonderful care and companionship she provided him for over ten years. He looked forward to his daily trips with Carrie down to Calf Pasture Beach to relax, take in the views, and enjoy a hot dog from Nik’s Place.
The family would also like to thank The Greens at Cannondale and The Wilton Meadows, who took great care of Richard and made him very comfortable in his last year.
Richard is survived by his daughter Lisa Reda of Norwalk and Lisa’s husband, Lou; his daughter Jill O’Connor of Danbury; and his three beloved grandchildren, Rachel Reda; Jack O’Connor and Jack’s wife, Victoria, and their two children, Vivian and Bennett; and Elizabeth DeJager and Elizabeth’s husband, Sean. He is also survived by his son, Richard W. Hodges and his children, Ricky and Jessica Hodges.
Services will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, of which Richard cared deeply.
