Rigoberto Serrano Obituary

Rigoberto “Rigo” Serrano, age 62, passed away peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on Friday, April 10, 2020 after a long illness. Rigo was born on October 21, 1957 in Barceloneta, PR to the late Heriberto and Carmen Serrano. He moved with his family to Norwalk, CT at the age of two, and graduated from Brien McMahon High School, where he was very active in sports playing baseball, basketball, and wrestling. After his graduation he completed courses for his trade and was employed by Peabody Engineering as a Welder Engineer for over a decade.

Rigo was a handyman and Jack of all trades. He took pride in his lawn that compared to no other in the neighborhood. He enjoyed the Holidays most and displayed yard decorations that caused passing traffic to come to a stop. One of his favorite things to do in the summertime was cooking on the grill for his family and friends. Rigo “papa” adored spending time with his grandchildren, leaving them wanting for nothing. He absolutely loved fishing! His pastime consisted of him rocking in his rocking chair watching television: sports, wrestling and religious services. He was a devoted Catholic who would attend St. Joseph Church in Norwalk. Rigo’s nurturing, selflessness and compassion for others shined through in everything he did. We are completely overcome with sorrow, but he would not want us to carry this sorrow because he had a way of making those around him happy, therefore we will carry on with an abundance of love and celebration for his life.

Rigo is survived by his only daughter Tamisha (Mikhail) DeIrish whom he adored. Three grandsons Mikhail Jr, Makhi, and Makari DeIrish that he cherished and thought the world of. Three brothers Wilbur, Johnny, and Heriberto Jr. Serrano. As well as two sisters Soraya and Wanda Serrano, and a host of nieces and nephews whom he also poured unconditional love and support into. Rigo will be greatly missed.

A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, where he will be laid to rest. Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, a public memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Rigo’s life. Our family deeply appreciates your kind words of sympathy, love and support during this difficult time.
