Rose M. (Malagise) Cocchia, age 90 of Newtown died on Saturday August 15, 2020. Rose was the wife of the late Anthony N. Cocchia Sr., they had been married for 57 years before his passing. She was the youngest daughter of the late Michael and Filomena (Funaro) Malagsie, born on March 14, 1930 in Norwalk, CT.
Rose was a smart, strong willed, quick witted woman who knew how to enjoy life. She was always the life of the party and was known to have the occasional mud slide, participate in a drinking game with her grandkids or play “Just Dance” with her great-grandkids. She was a good listener and often had advice for any issue, one of her favorite sayings was that it would ‘all come out in the wash’ – and it usually did. She was an excellent cook – lasagna was the family favorite that would usually involve a race to bring the leftovers home. She was always up for an adventure, traveling in her 80s to both Mexico and Ireland to attend her granddaughter’s weddings.
Rose had many different jobs in her lifetime, but nothing compared to her role as a mother. She will be dearly missed by her 5 children, Michael Cocchia and his wife Kim, Donna Mathieson, Mary Ann Allen and her husband David, Lisa Bassett and her husband Robert and Anthony Cocchia Jr. and his partner Kathryn. Rose also had 7 grandchildren: Brett, Corry, Erin, Shauna, Jenna, Kalyn and Kensye. Affectionately known as Grandma RoRo to her 6 (soon to be 7) great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Delanie, Emerson, Jacob, Nathan, and Aoibhinn. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends that she loved dearly. She was pre-deceased by her 2 brothers, Michael and Ralph Malagise and sister, Fay Coppolo.
