Steven John Sferlazza, MD June 24, 1962 – September 5, 2022 Loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, physician, and friend. Dr. Steven John (Steve) Sferlazza, 60, longtime resident of Norwalk, CT, was called home to rest with the angels on Monday, September 5, 2022. Steve was the loving husband of Rose Mary Piro Sferlazza for 33 years and proud father of Lorena, Lila, Julia, and Christopher (CJ) Sferlazza. Steve was born on June 24, 1962, in Mineola, NY, to his parents John and Theresa Sferlazza. He grew up in Elmont, NY, with four older siblings: John, Victoria, James, and Chris. He attended Sewanhaka High School and graduated in the top 1% of his class. Steve cultivated a passion for art from an early age and received a full scholarship to study biology with a minor in art history at Adelphi University, creating beautiful paintings and drawings throughout his life. Steve then pursued a medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine, where he met his wife Rose, who shared his mutual love of dancing, cooking, and their Italian heritage. They were married in June 1989 soon after his graduation and lived in Norwalk, CT, where he pursued a radiology residency at Norwalk Hospital culminating as Chief Resident. He then attended Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, to complete a fellowship in Women’s Imaging leading to a 30-year long career serving and supporting breast cancer patients as a diagnostic radiologist specializing in mammography. He had an intuitive gift as a physician in this field, helping countless patients in the diagnosis and management of their breast cancer. He was loved and appreciated by so many of his patients and felt enormous gratitude to be able to help them and be an integral part of their care. Over the years, Steve entertained many friends and family with his personable nature, giving spirit, and sense of humor. Sharing his love of music, dancing, and food (especially ice cream) brought him much joy. He loved traveling with his family to Mexico every year, making many fond memories. Steve appreciated the beauty in nature and the signs of life and love around him. Steve kept a deep faith in God over his lifetime and continued to capture precious moments through photographs. Steve is survived by his loving wife, children, mother, siblings, nephews, nieces, many cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, John. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 12, 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Steve’s family will receive loved ones and friends at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue in Norwalk on Sunday, September 11, 3 PM - 7 PM.
