Walter Walsh Obituary

Walter J. Walsh 1933-2021

It is with great sadness to share that we have lost a treasure of a man, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.  Beloved husband of Theresa (Terry) E. (Testa) Walsh, of Norwalk CT, father of Pamela (Tony) Torsiello of West Hartford CT, and Kimberly Walsh of Sedona, AZ, stepfather to Jo-Ann (James) Lindwall of Weston, CT, Gale Pennell of Easton, CT, Donna Blosser of Westport, CT, and step-granddaughter, Stephanie Wilcox of Pomfret Center, CT, who Walter helped raise from a young age.  He is survived by two brothers, Brian (Daphne) Walsh of Katonah, NY and Robert (Mary Anne/Chris) Walsh, Esq. of Wallingford, CT and proud grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 12 and many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Walter W. and Beatrice Walsh, stepmother, Barbara Walsh and half-brother, Christopher Walsh.    Walter was dearly loved by his family and all who knew him.

Walter attended Georgetown University before joining the U.S. Army and served during the Korean war.  Walter then worked as an electronic engineer at Norden Systems and then Tie Communications.  He joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 72 in Norwalk, CT and was a member for approximately 30 years, serving as Commander during his tenure.  Walter was an active volunteer in his community and was a proud American, never missing to work at the polls for every election.  Upon retirement, he worked at Rex Marine repairing kayaks and inflatable boats.

Walter grew up in New Haven CT and Scarsdale, NY.  He sailed as a young boy with his father.  He had a love of the sea and had a custom built Cat Boat, which he named Treasure, which is how anyone who knew him would describe Walter, as he was always willing to help a friend or family member.    Walter was witty and had everyone smiling with his gift of puns!  People would recognize Walter in the cooler months donning his navy blue Greek fisherman’s cap.

With his wife by his side, Walter sailed away peacefully on the morning of June 19th, leaving a lifetime of wonderful memories of a true gentleman.  There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday July 11, 2021 from 12-3 pm at the Coast Guard Flotilla 72 (Calf Pasture Beach) 50 Calf Pasture Beach Rd. Norwalk, CT. Contributions in Walters name may be made to the Coast Guard Flotilla 72 Corporation 50 Calf Pasture Beach Rd. Norwalk, CT 06855.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
