Nicholas (Nick) McCormack

August 13, 1957 ~ September 25, 2021 (age 64)

Nicholas McCormack, age 64 of Norwalk, Connecticut, died suddenly at his home on September 25, 2021. Born on August 13, 1957 in India to Irish parents, Nick grew up in Yorkshire England until his lust for travel saw him moving to the USA in his 20s seeking adventures (and weather!) the UK could not offer. He travelled extensively throughout the USA with only a motorbike and rucksack as possessions, and accumulating many, many great stories and encounters (often unbelievable) along the way. Importantly, he met great friends and characters many of whom he stayed in close contact with for decades.

Nicholas was a character in the true sense of the word, larger than life itself, if you met him, you would never forget him (however hard you may try!). His presence was formidable, and his absence will leave an unfillable hole in many of our hearts. He was sociable, outgoing and loved people, and new places…... best of all a pub/bar and the opportunity to talk nonsense to anybody stupid enough to be in earshot. Above all, for those that really knew him, his heart was always open to the people he loved, he was generous to a fault, kind, loving and fearless, impulsive, crazy. He possessed the rare quality seldom seen today of humility, probably never really knowing just how important he was to so many of us. He was a true non-conformist, opinionated, with questionable views on a range of topics, but dig below the surface and a greater, kinder human being would be difficult to find.

Nick had recently started to think about winding up his construction company, and was due to retire from October 2021…. but slowing down and enjoying the quiet life was certainly never going to be an option for him. He already had plans for his annual motorbike trip (Scotland this year) with his UK friends, tours of south America, Ireland, antique buying in Europe and fishing trips to Texas were all planned.

Although he was taken from us far too soon, he squeezed a lot into his 64 years – and his fearless, impulsive, at times disorganised approach to life would have left little room for regrets. He did everything just how and when he wanted to, as far as he could. He was a real force of nature, eccentric, uncontrollable, spontaneous, adventurous, funny, and certainly unforgettable – he will leave a huge gap in all our lives, but be grateful as we’re are the lucky ones who knew him.

A celebration of life for Nicholas will be held at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, CT, on Thursday 14th October 2021 at 12.30pm.  The service will be hosted on Tribucast with the following link.  (Although the service will begin at 12:30 PM, the video cast will begin at 12PM)
