Berdella (Mungo) White

October 14, 1958 ~ March 28, 2015 (age 56) 56 Years Old

 Berdella Mungo White, age 56, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Affectionately known as “Peaches”, Berdella was born in Manning, South Carolina on October 14, 1958 to Betty R. Mungo and the late David Mungo.   She relocated to Connecticut in 1961 with her family and her beloved grandmother; Bernice Campbell.

Berdella was a devoted mother and a wonderful friend with a passion for helping others.  Having previously accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, she  joined the New Light Missionary Baptist Church of Norwalk, Connecticut on March 13, 2005 and became an active and faithful member.   

Berdella was a community activist and fierce advocate for justice and equal opportunity. Her leadership and commitment to lifting up her neighbors and community was valued by all who knew her. She served as president of the Colonial Village Resident’s Council for many years, was a Board Member of Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now, an Executive Committee Officer of the Norwalk Branch NAACP, an Officer of ACORN, and a member of Norwalk Weed and Seed.  Berdella was the recipient of numerous awards and recognition for her outstanding community work, including a Celebrate Women Award for Outstanding Community Service and a Civilian Recognition Certificate from the Norwalk Police Department.

Berdella worked in a number of industries where her compassion for others and outstanding relationship skills served her well, including Securitas Security Services, Family and Children’s Agency, NEON, Inc. and Girl Scouts USA.  She was always focused on bettering herself and pursuing greater educational challenges and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration (2004) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Management (2006) from American Intercontinental University.

In addition to her mother, those left to cherish her memories are her son; Jermaine Mungo, daughter; Betty “Natasha” Mungo White; three brothers; David (Jessie) Mungo, Sr., Louis (Glynis) Mungo, Dewayne Palmer, a cousin; Angela (Charles) Kelly, three grandchildren; Jordan Mungo, Janiah Little and Zadie Mungo, special sister-friends; Cynthia Sanders and Stacey Hall Peterson, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at the Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, 31 Concord Street, South Norwalk CT
