December 30, 1927 ~ April 29, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Philip Joseph O’Grady, Jr, age 88, lifelong resident of Norwalk and beloved husband of Ethelyn (Vanech) O’Grady for 64 years, died on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Norwalk Hospital.  Born in Norwalk, the son of the late Philip J Sr. and Grace (Peck) O’Grady, he had served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S Navy before beginning his career in Law Enforcement.
 
During his 22 years with the Norwalk Police Department, he graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quatico, VA. He was also awarded Police officer of the year from the Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association of CT (N.E.O.A). After retiring as sergeant from the Norwalk Police Department, he then joined the State of CT Division of Criminal Justice where he worked for over 33 years in the Stamford Superior Court. During this time he served as the Police Inspector. Upon retirement from the State, he received an official citation from State of CT General Assembly for outstanding service, commitment to law enforcement, and dedication to the community. Philip was a 32 degree Mason, with the Old Well Lodge #6, a member of the Shriners, and Police Associations.
In addition to his loving wife, Philip is survived by his son Steven, and daughter, Gigi (Russell) Ouellette, 4 cherished grandchildren; Russell Philip,  Alexi Rose, Steven Thomas, and Christian Joseph Ouellette, a brother Richard (Jenny) O’Grady, two sister in laws, Elizabeth Zielinski of Danbury, CT, and Ann (George) Markis of Tarpon Springs, FL, several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Corrine O’Grady James. 
 
Funeral services will be held privately by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Whittingham Cancer Center would be greatly appreciated, c/o Norwalk Hospital Foundation, 34 Maple St, Norwalk, CT 06850.
