Arnaldo Mattera

     Arnaldo Mattera, age 81 and beloved husband of Assunta Trofa Mattera, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Friday, May 22.  Born on September 1, 1933 in Fontana, Ischia, Italy, he was the son of the late Tommaso and Anna Mattera.  He has lived locally for most of his life after immigrating to Switzerland and then the U.S.  Arnaldo was retired from Perkin Elmer after 25 years where he was a group leader in the finishing department.  He had also worked earlier for Wagner Pools and had his own landscaping business.  He was an avid wine maker and gardener who was renowned for his tomatoes.  Arnaldo also served in the Italian Navy and was a boxer.  He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer and was totally devoted to his loving family.

     In addition to his wife, Arnaldo is survived by his three sons; Thomas Mattera and his wife Linda and Florindo Mattera, all of Norwalk, and Salvatore Mattera and his wife Sandra of Australia.  Also surviving are his siblings Luigi Mattera and Raffailina DiMeglio of Italy and his beloved grandchildren Thomas, Christopher, Giovanni, Reese and Liam, and many nieces and nephews.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 26, 10 AM at St. Ladislaus Church, 25 Cliff St., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.  At Arnaldo’s request there will be no visiting hours.  Donations in his name may be made to Notre Dame Convalescent Home, 76 West Rocks Rd., Norwalk, 06851.
