Audrey (Brauneck) Cross

 Audrey of Norwalk, formerly of Manchester and Wilton, CT, passed away on the morning of August 12, 2016 in Norwalk, CT.

 She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Samuel S. Cross, sisters Dorothy Vitaliano and Doris DeHuff and grandchildren Subhadra and William. Audrey was a devoted mother to her son Stephen and his wife Sharon, daughter Lauren, son Robert, daughter Wendy and her partner Kim, stepson Edward and his wife Kathie. Audrey leaves behind five grandchildren, Wendy, Matthew, Eddie, Brian and Kelly and six great grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Caiden, Owen, Samuel and James.

 Audrey was born in New York City on July 12, 1921 to William and Adele Brauneck. Audrey was a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. She went to work for Time, Inc. at Rockefeller Center before marrying her husband Sam and moving to Wilton, CT to raise her family. Audrey was a patron of the arts and a long-standing member of the Metropolitan Opera House and Yale Repertory Theatre. She loved classical music and literature and never encountered a New York Times crossword puzzle she couldn’t handily vanquish with the stroke of her pen. Audrey was a lifelong animal lover and regular contributor to local and national rescue organizations. Audrey was also an avid New York City sports fan, yet unique in that she harbored an endearment for the Boston Red Sox. Audrey was blessed throughout her life with a quick wit, wry sense of humor and a mind as sharp as a tack. Above all else, Audrey loved her family with a kind and generous heart.

 A private family service will be held on Friday, August 19 at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that tax deductible donations be made in Audrey’s memory to WASA (Westport Animal Shelter Advocates), www.westportwasa.org, 1 Tower Ridge, Westport, CT 06880.
