Magda (Mandak) Ivanyi, age 83, of Norwalk, died on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at her home. Born in Sopron, Hungary, she received her accounting degree in Budapest and has lived in Norwalk since 1954, after escaping Hungary in August 1951 by sheer luck. She is the beloved wife of 54 years to Andrew Ivanyi. Magda worked as a bookkeeper and comptroller for various local firms including Don Hansen Advertising in Westport, Decker's and the Law Offices of Miklos Koleszar in Norwalk and Rose Adams Construction of Westport. Magda was the past president of the Hungarian Committee of Norwalk and Vicinity and has overseen many projects such as the Hungarian Heritage Wall plaque and the Freedom Fighters memorial in Freese Park. She also hosted a weekly Hungarian language radio show on WNLK for many many years.
In addition to her loving husband Andrew, she is survived by their children; Magda Bennett of Norwalk, Andrea Brennan and her husband Bob of Sherborn, MA and Niki Beddoe and her husband Wally of Trumbull, 6 cherished grandchildren; Bobby and Andrew Brennan and Carly, Jake Kirk and Amy Beddoe of Trumbull, as well as brother and sister in law; Miki and Jolie Ivanyi and numerous other loving relatives.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM on Monday, January 26 at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd, Norwalk, with burial will be held privately at a later date. Magda's family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 6 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk.
