Elizabeth Y. Carter, age 68, of Fairfield, Connecticut beloved wife of Raymond Carter, passed away suddenly on July 26, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital. Betsy was born in Derby, CT on August 11, 1946, daughter of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Veres) Yocher. In addition to her husband, Betsy is survived by two brothers, Edwin and Paul Yocher as well as a number of nephews and nieces.

She began her career as a High School Mathematics Teacher in the West Haven, CT Public School System. She advanced to become the Department Head and also spent several years consulting at the CT State Department of Education in Hartford, CT. Betsy authored a series of mathematical textbooks titled Math in Stride along with her longtime colleague Clare Clark. Betsy also worked as an Independent Mathematics Consultant and became the Director of Mathematics for the Hamden, CT Public School System. She retired from the public school system in 2013 and transitioned into a role as the Director of Grants in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT. In addition to her professional endeavors, Betsy was also an active member and held various leadership roles at the Connecticut Council of Leaders of Mathematics (CCLM), the Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics and Science (PIMMS) and the Community Advent Christian Church in Norwalk, CT.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015, at 11am at The Magner Funeral Home, located at 12 Mott Avenue in Norwalk, CT. Calling hours will take place at 10am until the time of the service. The burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, located at 81 Riverside Avenue in Norwalk, CT. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Community Advent Christian Church in Norwalk, CT located at 16 Van Zant St. in Norwalk, CT 06855 which will later be transferred into the Elizabeth Carter Foundation for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and the Arts.
